October 22nd Coalition in the San Francisco Bay Area October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression, and the Criminalization of a Generation

Dear October 22nd Coalition Friends,

Thank you so much for the support that you have provided in helping to
get the word out about the protest this Sunday. We urgently need your
help with paying for several large expenses that have to be paid in
order to hold the protest.

The momentum for October 22nd is going strong -- over 80 individuals
and organizations have endorsed the Call for a National Day of Protest. A number of families of the Stolen Lives will be speaking out at the protest on Sunday. Unfortunately, the list of Stolen Lives is growing- we will be showing this with the Stolen Lives Wall and a new update to the Stolen Lives book. In
recent years, the City has made protest of any kind prohibitively
expensive- this drains resources of activist organizations,
particularly groups like ours that are all-volunteer (three years ago, all of the fees were waived). We need each group to make a contribution in order to exercise our first amendment rights. FREE SPEECH isn’t cheap in San Francisco.

Among the mandatory requirements from the City: porta-potties for
$1,160.66. This is in addition to the sound permit fee. Several fees were waived, which is a relief.

Additionally, to make the march and rally work, we need to rent a truck for the march. We also need to transport the Stolen Lives Walls to the protest. We have last minute printing costs and incidentals such as
trash bags.

If each of our endorsers, and many other supporters, were to contribute $35.00 (not including those who have already generously made a contribution) we could have a clean, safe, powerful, vibrant march and rally for all.

Everyone will have the opportunity to have a table at Jefferson Park
and recoup this upfront expense. Please, if you or your group can afford to donate $50 or more, that will help those who truly would find $35.00 to be a
hardship.

As we unify in our message to stop police brutality, repression, and the criminalization of a generation, we complement and empower all of us in our quest for justice for all.

Any amount that you can donate will help a lot. Please ask your
friends, organizations, co-workers, -- whomever-- to donate.

Checks can be mailed to the October 22nd Coalition at 2940 16th
St,
#200-6, SF CA 94103, or brought to the Progressive
Organizing Center, 4760 Mission Street, on Thursday evening 10/19 from 6:30
to
9 pm. Checks can also be left in the mail box at the POC. We will
gladly accept additional contributions at the rally.

PS- If you plan to participate in the march, we encourage you to arrive at 1:30. We have announced the 2:00pm gathering for Stanyan and Haight. We will march shortly after 2 to Jefferson Square Park (Laguna and Eddy) for a 4pm rally.
